Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is conducted by the National Testing Agency, which is also a recently formed statutory body. NTA conducts this examination twice a year. Earlier, the task was performed by the Central Board of Secondary Education. JEE Main is important for the entire architecture of numerous engineering colleges in the country. 

It is conducted to provide admissions to Engineering/Technology at NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, and Institutions/Universities funded or recognized by participating State Governments, as well as an eligibility test for JEE (Advanced), which is conducted for admissions to IITs. Paper 2 is conducted for admission to B. Arch and B. Planning courses in the country. A candidate does not have to appear in both Sessions. If a candidate participates in more than one session, the best of their JEE Main scores will be used to determine the Merit List and ranking.  

The syllabus, as well as the whole JEE Mains exam pattern, will be released in the brochure by the National Testing Agency. JEE Main 2025 Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2025 is important for candidates aspiring to participate in the Joint Entrance Examination (Main). The criteria cover various parameters, including age, qualifying examinations, and marks requirements. Here’s a breakdown of the key requirements:

1. Age Limit: There is no age limit for candidates appearing in JEE Main 2025. Students who have passed their Class 12 or equivalent examination in 2022, 2023, or are appearing in 2024 can apply, irrespective of their age. Candidates may need to satisfy the specific age requirements of the institutes to which they are seeking admission.

2. Qualifying Examinations: Candidates must have passed one of the following qualifying examinations:

• Class 12 Exam: From any recognized central or state board (e.g., CBSE, CISCE).
• Pre-University Examination: Conducted by a recognized board or university.
• Vocational Exam: From a recognized board.
• Diploma: Minimum three years duration recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.
• International Examinations: GCE (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) Advanced level, High School Certificate from Cambridge, or International Baccalaureate Diploma from Geneva.
• Others: Equivalent exams as recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

3. Year of Passing: Only candidates who passed the Class 12 (or equivalent) examination in 2022, 2023, or are appearing in 2024 are eligible for JEE Main 2025. Those who passed before 2022 are not eligible.

4. State of Eligibility: The State Code of Eligibility is measured by the state from which a candidate passed their Class 12 (or equivalent) qualifying exam. The state code is not based on the candidate’s place of residence. Special conditions apply for students from NIOS, Nepal/Bhutan, and OCI candidates.

5. Percentage Criteria: While there is no minimum percentage requirement to appear for JEE Main, candidates must secure at least 75% marks in Class 12 for admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. For SC/ST candidates, the required percentage is 65%.

6. Subjects in Class 12: Candidates must have studied Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, along with one additional subject from Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or a technical vocational subject.

7. JEE Advanced Eligibility: To qualify for JEE Advanced 2025, candidates must rank among the top 2,50,000 candidates in JEE Main Paper 1.

Reservation Policy for JEE Main 2025

In alignment with the Government of India’s regulations, the JEE Main implements a reservation policy for several categories of Indian nationals. These reservations ensure that candidates from underprivileged sections of society have access to educational opportunities. Below is an overview of the reservation policy for JEE Main 2025:

• PwD Reservation Across Categories: PwD candidates are entitled to 5% reservation across all categories, including General, GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, and ST.

JEE Main 2025 Registration Process

The registration process for JEE Main 2025 involves several steps to ensure accurate and authenticated submission of candidate details. Here’s a step-by-step guide to the registration process:

1. National Academic Depository (NAD) Digilocker Registration

• Candidates are required to first register on the National Academic Depository (NAD) Digilocker.
• After completing this, candidates will receive a unique ID which is necessary for further registration on the JEE (Main) portal.
• Candidates who fail to register on the NAD portal may need to report at the exam center an hour prior to the scheduled entry time.

2. Login and Identification Options: On the registration page, candidates can identify themselves through various methods:

Digilocker Account:

• If you have a Digilocker account, log in using it.
• If you do not have a Digilocker account, create one and then proceed with the login.

Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) ID:

• Log in using an existing ABC ID, or create a new one if you do not have it.
• Identification through Passport, PAN, or Aadhaar:
• Candidates can use an Indian Passport, PAN card, or Aadhaar Enrollment Number for registration.

Non-Indian Passport: Candidates with a Non-Indian Passport can create a login using that information.

3. Authentication of Mobile Number and Email Address

• Candidates need to authenticate their mobile numbers and email addresses by entering OTPs received on both platforms.
• Unique mobile numbers and email addresses must be used for each application.
• Parental contact details, including mobile numbers and email addresses, will also be collected.

4. Authentication at Exam Centre

• Candidates may choose to authenticate themselves using their Aadhaar at the exam center.
• Alternatively, candidates can use other government-issued photo IDs like a Passport, PAN card, Ration card, Driving License, or Voter ID for authentication.
• Note: Candidates using non-Aadhaar identification methods will have their biometrics recorded at the exam center and should arrive one hour earlier for this process.

5. Selection of Examination Cities

• The choice of exam cities will be displayed based on the permanent and present address provided during registration.
• Candidates will be able to select four choices of cities for the exam.

6. Parental Income Details: Candidates must fill in the annual family income, which includes the gross annual income of both parents or guardians, along with any other sources of income.

7. Confirmation Page and Scorecard: After successfully completing the registration, a copy of the confirmation page and the scorecard for both exam sessions (Session 1 and Session 2) will be sent to the candidate’s registered email address as well as to the parents’ email addresses.

8. Filling the Online Application Form: The application form will be bilingual (English and Hindi).

The form is divided into three sections:

• Step 1: Registration Form
• Step 2: Application Form: This includes personal details, exam city preferences, qualification details, additional information, and document uploads.
• Step 3: Fee Payment

9. Aadhaar Number: Aadhaar authentication is optional. Candidates may provide their Aadhaar number if they choose to do so.

10. Scribe Option for PwD Candidates: PwD candidates may opt for a scribe. They can either use a scribe provided by NTA or bring their own.

11. Use of Digilocker: Candidates must initiate the registration process using Digilocker.

12.Medium of Examination

• JEE (Main) 2024 is being conducted in multiple languages: English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
• Candidates opting for Hindi or regional languages will get the question paper in both English and the selected language.

13. Recognition of UDID Card (Swaalamban Card): PwD candidates may use the UDID card (Swaalamban Card) as proof of disability for registration.

14. Category Certificate: No category certificate needs to be uploaded during the online application process. These documents, including the category certificate, will be verified later by the counselling/admitting institutions.

Application Sessions & Fee Payment

• Candidates can choose to apply for either one or both sessions (Session 1 and 2). The fee for each session needs to be paid during the respective application window.
• If applying for only Session 1 initially, the candidate will have a chance to apply for Session 2 later.
• The fee can be paid online via Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card, or UPI. Any processing fees or applicable GST will be charged in addition.

Confirmation Page & Payment Issues: A confirmation page will be generated once the fee is successfully paid. If not, the candidate must contact the payment gateway for help with successful payment or a refund in the case of duplicate payments.

• It is subject to the fulfillment of eligibility conditions and the receipt of the prescribed application fee by NTA.

• Candidates must download their e-Admit Card from the NTA website.
• The exam must be taken at the designated Centre on the date and shift/timing specified in the e-Admit Card.
• Candidates are strictly prohibited from appearing at the examination Centre on a date or shift/time other than that allotted to them.

Important Key Points:

• No Postal Delivery: Admit Cards will not be sent by post.
• No Duplicates at Centres: Duplicate Admit Cards will not be issued at the examination Centres.
• Preservation: Candidates must not mutilate their Admit Card or alter any entries made. It is advisable to preserve the Admit Card in good condition for future reference.
• Ineligibility Consequences: Candidates whose applications are found incomplete (e.g., indistinct photographs, unsigned applications) or who do not meet eligibility criteria will not receive an Admit Card.
• Eligibility Review: The issuance of the Admit Card does not imply acceptance of eligibility, as this will be scrutinized at subsequent stages of the admission process.
