Punjab Technical University PTU Counselling 2025 will be conducted by I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU), tentatively from May 2025 for admission in engineering colleges in Punjab. I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU) has been allocated as the competent authority to conduct Centralized Online Counselling for admissions to AICTE, PCI, and COA approved courses. This counselling will be based on the inter-se-merit of the qualifying examination and will cover the affiliated colleges and campuses of I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar & Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathinda.

Access the Registration Portal
- Visit the official website of IKGPTU counselling at https://counselling.ptu.ac.in/Registration/.
- Alternatively, you can visit the IKGPTU Admission website at https://ptu.ac.in/admission-2024-25/centralized-online-counseling/.
- Click on the “APPLY FOR NEW REGISTRATION” option under the Centralized Online Counselling section.
Read Instructions and Start Registration
- Carefully read the Important Instructions for Admission provided on the page.
- Click on the “I Agree” button to proceed to the Registration Form.
Fill the Registration Form
- Enter required details, including: Name, Date of Birth, and other information as per your Class 10th certificate.
- State of Eligibility and desired engineering course.
- Click on “Get OTP” to receive a verification code via your registered mobile number and email.
- Check the spam/junk folder if the email does not appear in your inbox.
- Enter the OTP and click “Verify OTP” to proceed.
Student Login
- After completing the registration, click on “Click here for Student Login” for the next steps.
- Enter the Reference Number and Password sent to your registered email ID.

Complete the Application Form

Choice Filling and Locking

Merit List and Seat Allotment
- Based on your application details and preferences, a Merit List will be prepared, and ranks will be assigned.
- The counselling result will be declared, and you can download the Provisional Seat Allotment Letter.
Reporting to the Allotted Institute
- Take a printout of the provisional allotment letter.
- Report to the allotted institute with the required documents and semester fee as per the schedule to confirm your seat.
Choice Filling Process
After obtaining the rank, candidates can view the available choices based on their category and filled details. Through the Choice Filling and Locking link, candidates can select multiple choices as per their preferences. It is highly recommended to arrange the selected choices in the order of priority. The following features are available during the choice-filling process:
- Up-Down Button: Allows candidates to move their selected choices one step up or one step down.
- Swap Choices: It enables interchanging of the selected choices.
- Delete Option: It enables the removal of unwanted or wrongly selected choices.
Once the desired choices are finalized, candidates needs to save them. A confirmation message will appear after saving. Finally, candidates need to lock their selected choices. If the choices remain unlocked, it will be locked automatically at the closing time of the choice-filling process.
Rank Preparation Process
The rank will be prepared based on the credentials provided by candidates in their application form. However, this is conditional on the successful payment of the online counselling fee after completing the application form. The rank is generated following the rules and regulations of the participating universities and notifications issued by the Punjab Government from time to time.
Result Declaration Process
Candidates can check their results by logging into their accounts on the specified date of result declaration. Eligible candidates will find their provisional allotment letters in their accounts and will also receive an SMS notification.
After the result, candidates are required to upload the necessary documents on the counselling portal for provisional verification at the college level.
Note:
- The allotment of seats is provisional and subject to the guidelines of the respective university for final confirmation.
- If a seat is allotted based on incorrect credentials or details provided by the candidate, the allotted seat will be canceled during reporting, and the candidate will have no claim to the seat.
Participation in 2nd Round of Counselling
Below steps and conditions for candidates participating in the second round of Online Counselling,
Eligibility for Second Round Participation:
- Seats will be distributed as 85% Punjab Quota & 15% Other States Quota Candidates
- Candidates who got or did not get a seat in the 1st Round or those who couldn’t participate after depositing the counselling fee can still participate in the 2nd Round, with the same counselling fee.
New Candidates:
New candidates must follow the complete procedure (as mentioned earlier) to participate in the 2nd round of counselling.
For Candidates Who Participated in 1st Round:
- These candidates need to log in with their Application Reference Number and Password.
- A popup page will appear, asking for consent to participate in the 2nd Round.
- By confirming, the candidate will be registered for the 2nd round, and further activities will follow as per the counselling schedule.
- The rest of the procedure will remain the same as the 1st round (except for depositing the counselling fee).
Changes in Allotment:
- If a candidate chooses to participate in the 2nd round after confirming their previously allotted seat:
- If a new seat is allotted in the 2nd round, the previous seat will be automatically cancelled.
- An upgraded allotment letter will be issued.
- The candidate must report to the previously allotted institute with the upgraded allotment letter to cancel the seat and claim a fee refund.
- The candidate must also report to the new institute to confirm admission within the prescribed time.
- If no new seat is allotted, the previous seat will be retained by the candidate.
Merit List and Tie-Breaking Criteria for B.Tech. 1st Year Admissions
- Merit list will be prepared based on 10+2 Examination
- Marks from all five subjects of the 10+2 examination will be considered.
- This includes three compulsory subjects (as per Punjab Government Notification) and two optional subjects.
- Candidates ranks in the merit list will be determined based on the percentage of aggregate marks in the 10+2 examination.
Based on Diploma in Engineering:
Candidates applying through a Diploma in any Engineering Trade from PSBTE, SLIET, or any other recognized State Board of Technical Education will have their rank determined based on the percentage of aggregate marks obtained in the Diploma.
Based on a 2-Year Certificate from SLIET:
Candidates applying through a 2-year certificate program from SLIET will have their rank determined based on the percentage of aggregate marks obtained in the qualifying examination.
Tie-Breaking Rule
In case of a tie in the merit list, the following rules will be applied:
- The candidate with a higher percentage of aggregate marks in compulsory subjects in the Matriculation examination will be ranked higher.
- If still their is a tie then the candidate who is senior in age will be ranked higher.

Tie-Breaking Rule
If two or more candidates have the same weighted percentage, the following tie-breaking rules will apply:
- The candidate with a higher percentage of aggregate marks in compulsory subjects in Matriculation will be ranked higher.

Admission of NRI/PIO/Foreign National Candidates
Admissions for NRI (Non-Resident Indian), PIO (Person of Indian Origin), and Foreign National candidates will be conducted based on merit in the qualifying examination or an equivalent examination. These candidates are not required to take an entrance test.
International students will be admitted under the Management Quota. The detailed admission criteria and preferences are as follows:
Merit-Based Admission:
- Admissions are based on the marks obtained in the qualifying examination.
- No entrance test is required for NRI/PIO/Foreign National candidates.
Preferences for NRI/PIO Candidates:
- First Preference: NRI/PIO candidates with an ancestral Punjab resident background.
